Employees Provident Fund, India has been vested with the responsibility of implementing the Employees' Provident Fund Scheme, the Employees' Pension Scheme and the Employees' Deposit Linked Insurance Scheme. The EPF, India is one of the largest provident fund institutions in the world in terms of membership and volume of financial transactions that it has been carrying on.

The Organisation has taken rapid strides in implementing these Schemes during the last 49 years of its existence. Each successive year registered tremendous growth in extending the membership of the funds to more workers and providing social security cover to them.

 

 

Constitution
The Central Board of Trustees is a tripartite body consisting of :-

1 Chairman  
2 Vice Chairman  
3 Central Government representatives 5
4 State Governments representatives 15
5 Employers' representatives 10
6 Employees' representatives 10

The tenure of the Board is five years.

Functions

Main functions of the Board are :-

  1. Administering the funds created and vested in the Board and performing other works incidental thereto.
  2. Maintaining accounts of Income & Expenditure in prescribed form and manner.
  3. Delegation of powers for administration of the Schemes.
  4. Submitting audited accounts with comments and annual report on performance of the Organisation to Government.

Regional Committee

Functions:- The Employees' Provident Fund Scheme provides for constitution of Regional Committees for each State to advise the Central Board of Trustees on matters connected with the administration of the Scheme in the State and in particular:-

  1. Progress of recovery of provident fund contributions and other charges,
  2. Expeditious disposal of prosecution,
  3. Speedy settlement of claims,
  4. Annual rendering of accounts to members of the Fund, and
  5. Speedy sanction of advances
  6. Opening of offices, and
  7. Annual reports and audited accounts of the respective regions

There are at present 18 Regional Committees constituted under Employees' Provident Fund Scheme, 1952. The term of the Regional Committees is 3 years.
